ABSTRACT
In this work, we investigate home-work locations and mutual followership ties of Twitter users from the top 50 metropolitan areas of the United States. We find that despite the heterogeneity of spatial structures in cities, above median commuting reduces the income assortativity of social networks by 30% on average.
